Operations Map
Review geographic reports for the base-support team at fictional Camp Meridian. The map leads the workspace; selected details keep the report’s position, uncertainty and source in view. The 12:00 UTC exercise snapshot includes relay teams, survey teams, support equipment, a gate post and a vehicle last reported at 11:42 UTC. A reserve radio kit has no reported position, and a remote relay team sits beyond the initial map extent. The map uses local vectors with no external requests.

Simulation controls
Reports, positions and freshness
Choose a marker to inspect the report at that location. A group opens a list of its stable record IDs, so exact overlaps remain distinguishable. Selection takes effect only when the caller accepts onSelectedIdChange. Pin in Inspector moves keyboard focus to the selected details. The table's Inspect action provides the same route without pointing at the map.
Selection survives panning, zooming, filtering and hidden layers. Details explain when the selected report is outside the current filter or map extent. Locate selected report centers the map on its supplied position without changing the filter or selection. When the selected report disappears, the Inspector retains its last-known content and original source ID, label and revision, and marks its data unavailable. If the workspace switches to a different source, the old provenance stays explicit and locating that retained report is unavailable. An externally supplied selection or revision update does not move focus. Closing deliberate inspection returns to the connected invoking control, or the named Report results region when that control has disappeared.
All records includes unknown, invalid and unsupported positions. Map extent includes matching records whose supplied positions fall within the current geographic viewport, including reports hidden by a layer preference. Counts describe the supplied snapshot; they do not imply unloaded service records. Disabling the map or losing the renderer falls back to All records with a visible explanation. Filtering never silently clears the selected identity. Duplicate or empty record IDs block ambiguous inspection and editing requests.
The viewport accepts arrow keys for panning and plus/minus for zooming. MapControls provides labeled navigation buttons, fit-to-data and north reset. The reports table, coordinate forms and annotation list remain independent keyboard routes. A map scale is shown only when the renderer supplies a valid resolution.
Source and geometry
Coordinates use WGS84 [longitude, latitude] in the data model. Forms label latitude and longitude separately. This Web Mercator reference supports longitude ±180°, latitude ±85.05112878°, zoom 2–20 and bearing 0–359.999…°. Invalid saved camera values are declined. Zero coordinates, north bearing, zero uncertainty and fractional opacity retain their meaning.
Collection availability (current, partial, offline, unavailable), report data quality, reported condition and position state (reported, last-known, unknown) describe separate facts. Supplied observation times remain explicit. The Inspector exposes each track sample's time and coordinates, coverage vertices, and the reported uncertainty radius. Lines connect supplied samples without reconstructing missing observations. Coverage is a supplied outline, rather than a claim of current sensor visibility. Uncertainty circles and two-point measurements are approximate geographic displays. The geographic markers identify supplied reports; they do not claim conformance to military symbology standards. C2 icons serve as interface controls.
The Layers and legend section controls visibility, opacity and order for annotations, measurement, equipment, tracks, uncertainty, coverage and the site plan. Legend symbols match the renderer's point, line, dashed area and token colors. Hiding reports leaves selected details and the table available.
Coordinates, bookmarks and measurement
Go to location checks both the committed coordinates and invalid local text. A partially typed or invalid number cannot submit a previous valid location. The map uses the same geographic bounds for coordinate entry, bookmarks and tools.
A bookmark contains a stable ID, a name of 1–80 characters, a complete view and every supported layer preference. Save bookmark requests a controlled list change; the rendered list reflects the host's accepted values. Restoring validates the complete saved view and layer set first. Duplicate IDs and corrupt saved preferences cannot be restored. Removal is explicit. The example bounds the supplied bookmark list to 100 when adding views and has no storage effects.
Measurement accepts two map clicks or two coordinate entries. A third click begins a new pair. Readouts retain both endpoints and display approximate great-circle distance in meters or kilometers, including zero distance. Terrain, altitude and routes are outside this calculation. Clear measurement clears both the rendered line and any local coordinate drafts.
Annotation outcomes
Open Annotations, enter a label of 1–120 characters, and supply a point using coordinate entry, a map click or Use selected position. Save annotation invokes the optional onCreateAnnotation(draft) adapter. The draft includes the source ID. A successful result must contain a new unique annotation ID and the exact submitted label, point and source, with a valid creation timestamp. Failed, malformed or mismatched results retain the draft. Repeated activation while pending cannot submit a duplicate request.
Source identity/revision changes, capability removal and unmount invalidate local observation of an outstanding save. This does not cancel a service operation. A transport error says the outcome could not be confirmed; reconcile the supplied annotations before trying again. Applications must also guard their own asynchronous publication against source changes—the recipe cannot undo side effects performed inside a caller's adapter. The reference host captures and checks its source revision before publishing.
Simulation controls, below the workspace, exercise offline sources, rejected saves and missing tiles.
The host owns annotations and publishes accepted entries there. A valid returned success can confirm the service accepted the save, while the list still reflects only supplied annotations. Removal is available only when onRemoveAnnotation(id) is supplied; requesting removal does not claim persistence. Annotations for another source stay outside this view. Invalid or duplicate supplied annotation identities produce an explicit notice.
State ownership and installation
OperationsMap accepts snapshot, controlled selectedId/onSelectedIdChange, controlled bookmarks/onBookmarksChange, annotations, optional annotation adapters, optional initialView and optional tileSource. The recipe owns local view, filter, extent choice, layer preferences and tool drafts. The snapshot provides ID, revision, source label, observation time, availability, reports and site features. Up to 5,000 supplied reports are accepted by the reference workflow. It does not fetch, persist, geocode or infer editing permission from a status color.
The core MapControls, LayerControl, MapLegend, MapScale and CoordinateInput components have no engine dependency. Copying this recipe requires the optional OpenLayers dependency:
pnpm add ol@10.10.0
GeoMap lazily loads its local engine module when enabled and disposes it when disabled or unmounted. The default fixture renders site vectors without a network basemap. To use background tiles, supply { url, attribution } through tileSource; the application owns the URL, credentials, network policy, licensing and availability. Attribution remains visible, tile failure is separate from source quality, and failed background tiles leave local vectors and the table usable. No offline tile cache is implied.
Keep the copied TypeScript modules together so their relative imports resolve. Use the standard OPERATOR token stylesheet and Tailwind setup, including a content scan of @operator-ds/react/dist. This reference demonstrates interaction and failure handling; automated tests do not establish geographic survey accuracy or suitability for a deployed operational environment.
